Starting School Age
Five years old: England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Malta, the Netherlands
Six years old: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark (6-7), France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden (6-7)
Seven years old: Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania
Okay so these are the official starting school ages for children across Europe, although it’s more like 4 that 5 in England. I think four is too young for children to start school. Well its 5 years old when they start year 1 and formal learning and that age where you have to sit and write in exercise books and do maths worksheets.
I personally think the age for starting formal learning should be year 2 so the year they turn 7 and ideally only if the child is ready to learn.
What do you think the age children start formal education should be?
